Mr Guoquan Liu, male, 79 years old, lived in Daguodong Village in Chenzhuang Town, Xianxian County, Hebei Province, and died at home on May 31, 2018. He was reborn in the Truly Happy World by the help of Amitabha Buddha and Master Zongying of local Pure land Temple and all lotus friends there.
Mr Guoquan Liu was a veteran rural old man not well-educated. His life was simple and honest, and he made a living by farming and herding sheep. In recent years, as the age increased, his heath gradually deteriorates. Because the family’s conditions were not good, he rarely went to the hospital for body inspection. Until 2018, the extreme body pain forced him to go to the hospital. There was a lump in the lungs, Lesions were found with heart, kidney and other organs of him. He went back home with medicines for the reasons like his age and the family’s poor economic conditions.
On October 4th, 2017, the Bohai Shuangyuan Hongyuan Buddha Recitation Hall appointed Master Zongying to Daguoxi Village in Xianxian County to carry forward Buddha Dharma. And Master Zongying often lived in the local Pure land temple in the Daguoxi Village. The home of Mr. Liu Guoquan was located more than 100 meters behind the Pure land Temple. But the old man did not contact with or believe Buddha Dharma last year.
Occasionally, while picking firewood behind the monastery, the wife of Mr Guoquan Liu met Master Zongying. The Master was kind enough to chat with the old woman and tell her the great benefits of repeating Namo Amitabha. The old woman was very happy. Later, when his wife came to the monastery to sing Buddha’s name, Master Zongying gave her an electric Buddha machine as a gift. The daughter-in-law of the old man was also affected by it. She often went to the monastery to read books and study Buddhism Dharma. She read almost all of the books of the monastery. On the Nirvana Day of Master Shandao, she borrowed a book to go home for study.
Mr. Guoquan Liu repeated Namo Amitabha sometimes. he seemed to have no intention of comprehending it. But the Lotus friends knew Amitabha will help him break his life and death cycling for him and he embarked on a boat trip out of the hardships.
Mr. Guoquan Liu’s niece is also a lotus friend who believes in Amitabha Buddha. She often visits them and persuades them to believe in and repeat the name of Amitabha Buddha. The old couple have good faith and believe in it. Although they do not understand Buddha Dharma, the merits of the name are fulfilled their heart with Buddha’s lights upon them.
Due to family conditions and unable to go to the hospital for treatment, Mr. Guoquan Liu only rested at home during the last time. He became to repeat Namo Amitabha more frequently. Buddha machine was turned on for 24 hours, and the sound of Namo Amitabha could be heard day and night. He had no obvious pain nor discomfort. Two days before his last day, his daughter came back home to see him and found him eat as normal and in good emotion. They chatted and laughed . No one could believe that he was a sickly dying person. At about 4 a.m. on May 31, 2018, the old man calmly passed away.
After his death, his family did not know how to deal with his death. According to the local maitained custom, the family asked the funeral workers in the village to deal with the affairs. The workers immediately changed his clothes and put his body into a ice coffin.
About 9 o’clock in the morning, Master Zongying learned his death. Master Zongying immediately came to help Mr. Guoquan Liu, some lotus friends coming along. His Special Amitabha Support, SAS, was not smoothly at the beginning because of the ‘responsible person’ in charge of his funeral.
The “responsible person” who was responsible for dealing with the subsequent affairs did not agree to give SAS to Mr. Guoquan Liu. They finally agreed they to do SAS reluctantly after the coordination of his wife and daughters. Because according to local customs, after the death of a person, everything about the funeral is managed by the “responsible person” including how to deal with the corp, even family members are not allowed to make decisions.
Because Buddhists believe the consciousness was still connected with the body during a period after the death and the dead person will be in great pain or discomforts caused by movements and other reasons, Master Zongying unplugged the power of the ice coffin in the process of SAS to avoid the pain of the old man’s remained consciousness. It caused dissatisfaction of the “responsible person”. He refused to continue SAS. Master Zongying then agreed to let the power supply to the ice coffin. The cold ice coffin did not prevent unconditionally saving of Amitabha. Nothing could prevent the mercy saving.
After more than ten hours of recitation of Namo Amitabha, the ice coffin was opened. Mr. Guoquan Liu looked alive and very peaceful. His body was very soft after being frozen for more than ten hours. He was believed to be reborn in the Truly Happy World by the help of Amitabha Buddha. Family members, the funeral workers and all the friends and relatives who came to mourn were all surprised and could not believe what they saw.
After voluntary work of SAS , all the lotus friends left leading by Master ZongYing. All the remains affairs were treated according to local customs by the responsible person.
